Beginning life as the Bath Assembly in 1948, just a year after the Edinburgh Festival, the Bath International Music Festival programmed many different music genres such as jazz, classical, world and folk as well as talks, theatre and dance. Over the years its directors included such musical luminaries as Yehudi Menuhin, Michael Tippett and Thomas Beecham.
In 2017, it merged with The Bath Literature Festival in 2017 to create a new multi-arts event, The Bath Festival.
With over 120 events over 10 days in late May, the diverse festival celebrates all kinds of music and literature.
Look out for star names performing at the Finale Weekend and Bath's biggest arts event, Party In The City, a night of free entertainment with over 2,000 performers across 30 venues and three outdoor spaces.
