The O2 Academy is a music venue with so many famous names to its history of performers that it feels almost normal. From Kings of Leon to Ocean Colour Scene, and Massive Attack to Ian Brown, heading out to see your current favourite band at the ‘O2’ is a regular event in every Bristolian’s life.
The venue has been through various guises since its opening as a cinema in 1966. Since then it has been known as the Rock (an early ‘00s superclub), the Carling Academy and, since 2009, the O2 Academy.
As well as hosting an outrageous number of household names, the O2 is also home to Ramshackle – a weekly club night with a theme for every room, including punk, rock, indie, metal and popular DJs (past names have included Zane Lowe and Block Party, to name a few).
